November 20 2009: Sailor stripe
Published November 20, 2009
When I went to Melbourne two years ago, I bought lots of vintage dresses, but this is the first one I’ve showcased here. But the dresses I have in mind for the next two days are both from Melbourne too.
This is another dress that I haven’t really worn – but this project has forced me to rethink those forlorn fashion items and work out a way to wear them. It took the beads and the belt to make me happy with this one but I think it also needs to be altered to fit.
That has been the great thing about Vintage November, I will actually wear many of these dresses more often now they’ve had one outing.
I love red, white and navy together – it’s one of those colour combinations that makes me swoon, and yet I don’t wear it very often. I’ve had the beads for years as well but guess what – I’ve rarely worn them.
I also like the pockets and the buttons on this dress – but the crimplene was a struggle on this very humid day.
The unusual thing about this dress is that it’s made in Canada – it must have made it’s way over here in someone’s suitcase.
